Bachelor girl—— Unmarried woman on the loose or away from home. Suggests Prostitution.
Bakwe———– A dialect cluster of the Kwa or Kru-speaking peoples of southeastern Liberia between the Cavally and Sassandra rivers.
Bambara——— Mande speaking peoples widely distributed throughout the savannah egion. Alternatively known as Bamana.
Band————- Small groups of musicians who have formed a cooperative association To make money by entertaining.
Barbered———- Hair cut; shorn. Man you got barbered
Bassa————— A Kwa-speaking peoples of central and coastal Liberia.
Beard-beard——– Reference to someone with a beard or moustache.
Beat————— Bested; failed. �Arithmetic beat me!�
Beg—————– Solicit; plead; a request. �I beg you!�
Behind————– To nag; keep after; insist. �I have to be behind you all the time.�
Bellly—————- Pregnant. �That women got belly.� This is also used for abdomen or stomach.
Be so—————— Let it be as it is, or, �Is that so?�
Big man—————- An important man.
Big rusty man———- A blow-hard, one who puts on airs.
Big/small ————– the adjectives of �big� and or �small� with references to any relative usually denotes either older or younger respectively.
Biri or bili————– a circumcision rite for boys practiced among the Mandingo, But also adopted by certain other people such as the Vai.
Bitter-ball————– A term for a small and round local variety of eggplant.
Black Monkey——— A Colobus Monkey. A black monkey with a white tail.
Figures widely in local myths and tales.
Bluff—————– swagger; brag. �He is a bluff-boy.�
Bony—————– A small dried or smoked fish obtainable in most markets. They contain numerous tiny bones are difficult to eat.
Book—————– To know book is to be literate. �He knows book.�
Bra——————- brother; friend; peer.
Bright—————— light-skinned; pale complexioned not necessarily while.
Bring——————- To take, carry. �Bring me to that place.�
Bugabug ————— A large white ant or termite. Constructs hills as high as eight or Ten feet of hard clay or cement.
Buku——————– Plenty; much. Use in some interior sections and derived from the French � beaucoup.�
Burn farm or bush——- After cutting the bush, clearing the undergrowth and cutting down trees, a standard part of farming in the interior is to burn the dried
debris.
Burned—————– Bit, stung. �A snake burned him.� �He was burned by a bee.�
Bush Cat————— A brown squirrel with black dorsal stripe and long tail which lives in hollow trees.
Bush Cow————– West African Dwarf Buffalo or Red Buffalo. Considered
extremely ferocious and destructive.
Bushcow Milk———- Idiom that implies much the same as our �Go jump in the lake.�
Bush Dog————– A river otter. A large brown otter with whitish throatand belly.
Bush Hog————– A wild pig, or a warthog.
Bush School———– The term used for the period of seclusion, training and initiation for children conducted by poro and sande.
Business—————- Mean matters or concerns. �The woman�s business.�
Butter Pear————– Is an avocado, and early introduction from Central America, and thrives in Liberian gardens.
By land——————- To travel by foot. �He went there by land, because there was on moneybus.�
By way——————- Clever strategy, opportunism, knowing the angles. It is
sometimes referring to someone that knows magical powers.
Can———————– To do, or I will. �I cannot eat that.�
Can Juice——————- an alcoholic beverage expressed and or distilled from sugar Cane.
Carry————————- Take; convey. �Carry me.�
Cassava ———————- The tuber of the sweet manioc. It is widely cultivated in Liberia. Introduced from South America from the early European trade with Africa.
Cassava Snake ————— It a Puff adder. Small and extremely poisonous viper Of the soecues Bites Gabonica
